brainwashing
KOrean war
During the Korean War, we saw the first signs of brainwashing. When the war ended in 1953, twenty one Americans were given the chance to return home to America and opted to stay in North Korea.
Vietnam war
Brainwashing was also used by the Vietnamese. In one example, Lt. Cmdr. Richard A. Stratton was shown on international television bowing at the waist twelve times followed by him reciting a scripted confessions of his "war crimes".
Modern times
Brainwashing is now a widely used tactic, mainly in the Middle East. In the 1990's, Navy Lt. Jeffrey N. Zaun and Air Force Maj. Jeffrey S. Tice was shown on worldwide television beaten, denouncing the war on terror in the Middle East.
